The tenth year of Wipro Education Fellowship has provided an opportunity to look back at communities across locations and ideas that have shaped this journey. Over a decade, the Fellowship has included more than 160 founders and 89 civil society organizations from all over the country. Beyond their shared interest in promoting education, there lies a shared commitment to working with children, teachers, and communities, often in environments where resources are scarce.

Many fellows began their work by simply showing up and sitting in classrooms, listening to teachers, spending time with parents, and observing children. Going beyond data required patience and persistence. There needed to be an understanding of local contexts, trust, and engagement with challenges that would require long-term efforts to resolve. Yet, even within everyday efforts, meaningful shifts have taken place—small changes in how a teacher approaches a lesson, how a child expresses curiosity, or how a school community begins to imagine better possibilities.

Participants interacting at the Meet

This issue of Samuhik Pahal aims to provide a space to all these experiences, where there can be dialogs and improvements can be collective in nature. The reflections in the articles of this issue offer a chance for people to reconnect, to revisit their journeys, and to look closely at what has aided or obstructed their journeys, sometimes simply by creating a sense of not being alone in the work. Perhaps quite unsurprisingly, the discussions during the meet happened to reflect more on the future of the space. Fellows reflected on how they might collaborate more intentionally and what a stronger community could look like.

To acknowledge the rich variety of work being done across the country, tailored to local contexts, the fellows agreed on the need for consistent documentation of such efforts and practices. Rather than sticking to a monotonous model, the Fellowship program has managed to build lasting relationships by ensuring their continuity. The gathering celebrating ten years of the fellowship program, then, was both a moment of reflection and a herald of new beginnings. It simultaneously recognized the work done so far and opened up spaces to consider what might come next. As the Fellowship enters its next phase, its foundation remains the same: listening closely, working collaboratively, and staying committed to the slow, steady work of strengthening education from within.

Some of the fellows shared their stories which has been curated on this page for all to view: Together, we have come far. – Stories
